Today, of all days, we got an inquiry for about $800k worth of data. From a European oil company. It might turn into a firm order.

    The world is nuts.

All non essential businesses to close in California until 19th of April.

Things are getting really tough now.

30% of small businesses will be bankrupt over the next 6 months.

    Unemployment will hit 20% +

I feel like we as individuals have lots of time to do things but nothing is really going to help, the wave is coming.

I feel like Australia is ahead of the curve.
We closed our borders before the US did (however we didn't extend it to Iran or Italy soon enough)
We actually tested people in Australia early on unlike the US
The majority of cases in Australia can be traced back to recent international travel and only little community transmission

The USA with the sheer amount of people that travel to it would have had the virus very early on. However they simply did not test many people if any.
It's now run wild in the USA and they are playing catch up testing people.

The thing is that you still can't get a test unless you are old or dying.

I reckon a million people in LA already have it and don't know.

Hertz at Adelaide Airport just asked a bunch of vehicle appraisers from AP Eagers and AHG to price vehicles, can only buy in lots of 25 and there are 20 lots, they want what's owing on them. That certainly won't happen and both Eagers and AHG haven't got the capacity to hold so many vehicles. Prices will plummet at best and this is only after 5 days since shutdown.

All our car bookings for April are cancelled, trucks are ok with people moving and with job losses will move to cheaper accomodation. Its grim out there and now the banks will defer payments for 6 months might help.

IMHO I can't see the light at the end of tunnel and I cannot see Australia pulling out of this in 2020, property values will fall and the whole system will be turned on its head and I think this whole saga will make the GFC look like a walk in the park.

Revised to $100k now, $200k in 12 months. Maybe. If their Australian office can secure funding from their Bangkok office, because they have none. So... unlikely.

New "social distancing" rules of 1 person for every 4 sqm are going to be very tough for small businesses, especially cafes, pubs and restaurants. Governments telling people to socially isolate whilst also telling those businesses to keep their doors open, but they can't operate anywhere near full capacity - and their customers aren't coming because they're trying to socially isolate out of fear of catching the virus.

From their perspective, a Gov-imposed full shutdown would be better. I wonder how far off that is?

Even as it currently stands, a lot of small businesses won't be able to come back from this.

Isn't that just keep everyone 1m away? I can't get my head around it

Initially it was just a guideline to keep 1.5m away. But now it's only 1 person every 4sqm, so a 100sqm restaurant is only allowed have 25 people in it (presumably including staff, so even less customers).

are these enforceable laws or still guidelines? will a business be fined if there are too many customers in the store?

Admittedly I'm not sure how strictly it will be enforced. Some more of his comments are at this link

Strong comments from the QLD Premier too. We must be getting close to full lockdown, my guess is that we are giving a bit of time for the last few Aussies to get home from overseas, and then we'll be shut.

"You can't see the virus. It's a bit like when you can't see a cyclone coming until it arrives," she said. "And I think people only have to see the images that are happening around the world that no-one is immune to this.

""Now, I know many of you would be thinking – it's a Friday afternoon, it's beautiful weather, 'I'm going to have a big night out.' Guess what – now is not the time to do it. I'm sorry to the pubs out there right across the state. I don't want you to be having a big night out this weekend to anybody,"

"This is like being hit by 30 cyclones at once. So I'm asking Queenslanders to do something they've never done before... if you do not need to go out, do not go out."
