Seeing Motul-partnered teams monopolise the gene- ral podium in a series as specialised as the ELMS is flattering for the international lubricants specialist. So what can be said when the first four LMP2 prototypes, 7 of the 10 first cars, 2nd team in GTC class and Top 3 of LMP3s all bear the famous brand?s red and white? The Austrian round of the championship that took place on 12 July had many unexpected occurrences impossible to relate all here. Having started from pole, Jota Sport?s Gibson-Nissan driven by Dolan, Albuquerque and Tincknell deserved its success as it led most of the four hours of the race. Thiriet by TDS Racing?s Oreca 05-Nissan driven by Badey, Thiriet and Gommendy was nonetheless a constant threat. It could even have won without a penalty.
Russian team SMP Racing accomplished a great feat by placing on the third step its very first creation,
prototype BR01, which first lapped in April. 4th, team Greaves Motorsport remains in the running for the title. Class GTC was upturned when Dermont was taken unawares by the unexpected slowing of a prototype and drove straight into the gravel trap. By the time he got out, the win had slipped through his fingers, but the BMW Z4 he shared with Perera and Lunardi crossed the arrival line 2nd of the category. The TDS Racing trio is currently winning the Teams and Drivers championships.
