The Volkswagen Golf R32 will go down as one of the best-sounding hatches of the mid-to-late 2000s. The 3.2-litre V6 engine punches out 184kW and 320Nm, with 0-100km/h coming up in just 6.2 seconds. This kind of performance (and noise) meant they were a crowd favourite amongst sports hatch fans.

The R32 was available with either a six-speed manual transmission or a dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission. Many opted for the DSG as the pop sound between gearshifts was music to the ears. Fuel consumption wasn?t the greatest, averaging 9.8L/100km for the combined cycle, but as a trade off for the noise it?s something you live with.

Given the R32 is now getting a bit long in the tooth, keeping the right fluids up to it will improve and sustain its life cycle and performance ? especially if you drive it ?enthusiastically?.
